Captain of the GuardChapter 1 "I won’t let you marry my sister." Those were not the words that people expected to hear, in the open field. It was a bright warm spring day, and the sun shone down between the new leaves on the trees. Calindar was back from his long trip. It was normal for him to leave on long trips and not be seen or hear from for weeks or months at a time. This trip had been the longest yet though. He had been gone a full year. Jinny his wife and Molly his oldest adopted daughter, had gone with him. Now they were back and a feast was being held in their honor. Molly had brought home a new boy friend.
